Sandra Wilson BA hons; MA; PG - Cert - Area Coordinator for Sewing, Knit and Digital Embroidery.I work part time, 4 days/ week, Tuesday to Friday.
An instructor at UWE for 24 years, I maintain and oversee all the activity and machinery in the 4th floor workshop areas. I am an experienced garment technician with a degree in Fashion/Textiles, a Research Masters in Fashion Culture and a Post-Graduate Certificate in Innovative Pattern Cutting (CSM). My depth of knowledge and skills are creative and expansive. I worked freelance in Theatre, Film and Television for 7 years working for Bristol Old Vic, the National Theatre and the BBC in various roles such as maker, dresser, supervisor and designer. I am a specialist in Wilcom digital embroidery software and am proud to have been part of the technical teams "MENDtalks online darning workshop" during lockdown. I am a member of the CFPR (The Centre for fine Print Research) https://cfpr.uwe.ac.uk/people/sandra-wilson/ where I am undertaking research into 3D printed fabrics for fashion. I am currently training to use CLO3D digital pattern cutting software and will begin to teach later this year. |
Ruth Squires (Peg) BA Hons - Senior Technical Instructor
4 days/week - Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday 9 - 4.30. Peg is a highly skilled garment technician and machinist and runs her own mending and alterations business. 'Peg's Alterations'. Extremely practical Peg is highly skilled at working out how to make all your most complicated designs so that they look their best inside and out.

Alison Stephenson. (Bod) BA Hons - Senior Technical Instructor
2 days/week - Monday & Friday. 9.30 - 5.30pm
Bod is a part time Technical Instructor with a huge range of diverse skills. She has been making shoes and leather accessories for over twenty years (trained at Cordwainers' College in London) and also makes costumes and props for science centres including At Bristol, Birmingham ThinkTank and Glasgow Science Centre. She has freelanced on many commissions, but most recently has been working in textile-based Product Design (Trunki, Thread Design, RealiseDesign). A meticulous seamstress, her specialist areas are fine fabrics (silks and chiffons), leather, latex/plastic and anything really detailed and fiddly.
